Winter was particularly cold in the Midwest this year. The frigid temperatures are most impactful to those who call the outdoors home. Thankfully there are congregations like Central Christian Church (Indy CCC) in downtown Indianapolis that are trying to help.
For almost 15 years, Indy CCC has hosted a “Free Store” where they distribute clothing, hygiene items and heavy-weight CWS Blankets particularly for those clients without a home. This concern for those without has helped them to expand their ministry to aid the nearby Wheeler Mission- a shelter for those who would otherwise be stuck sleeping outside.
In 2017, Church World Service provided thick wool blankets to be used at their temporary shelter. Each night, the church opens their doors at 8 pm to allow individuals to sleep in their gym. They use the CWS Blankets as their bedding. Your generosity means that CWS can share blankets to groups like Central Christian Church to be shared with the neighbors who need them.
Matthew Stevens, Director of Congregational Giving for Church World Service is inspired by the generosity of churches like Indy CCC. “Central Christian Church in downtown Indianapolis is a longstanding supporter of CWS Blankets. Each winter, the congregation responds to the special needs of their community. It was nice to provide CWS Blankets to a congregation that is so dedicated to serving others,” said Stevens
Pastor Linda McCrae expressed her gratitude to having these heavy-weight CWS Blankets in their Free Store since there have been a number of occasions that they have not had enough blankets for those sleeping at Indy CCC.
“I want to say thank you to all of the congregations that give to the blanket ministry of Church World Service. It is because of your generosity and sharing that we are able to touch the lives of our homeless neighbors,” said Pastor Linda McCrae.
In 2017 alone, congregations like yours, enabled CWS to distribute over 243,942 blanket and kits. Together, we can blanket the world with love.
